Hello Placer Families!

Happy Spring! Thank you to all of the people who came to our Wine and Food fundraiser last month. It was a huge success that raised several thousand dollars for the Teacher Wish Lists! Special thanks to Sue Compton, our chair who did a wonderful job organizing the event.

We will have a few upcoming board positions on the Friends of Placer High School Board. We will need a new Grad Night Chair, a Scrip organizer (most or all done at home!), and we would like to get someone to shadow our treasurer and train to start that job next spring!

Please come to one of our meetings! We meet the first Wednesday of each month and we would love to have you!

February/March Newsletter 20162017

Happy (Almost) Spring Hillmen families! FOPHS is busy getting ready to host the Annual Green and Gold fundraiser on March 18th. This will be a wine and food tasting event with several local restaurants and wineries sharing their deliciousness! This is FOPHS’ only fundraiser and supports the Placer Teachers’ wish list. Last year we raised $13,000 for the wish list and granted every wish on it. Please consider attending this year. It is a great time and a great date night! Grad Night Committee is in full swing and looking for someone to take over the reins next year. If you are a parent of a freshman or sophomore, consider getting involved in this great event. Grad night keeps our grads off the roads in supervised activities overnight. There is a different theme each year and the students really love it! We would love to have you at one of our meetings. They are held the first Wednesday of every month at 6:30 in the staff lounge!

A new year, a new beginning for FOPHS….

The Friends of Placer High School, Placer High School’s Parent Organization, is seeking to fill 2 board positions open for the 2016-2017 school year.   Kim Lightfoot, President and Judy Pruett, Vice President are stepping down and we need to fill their positions.   If you are interested in being a part of a wonderful group of Placer parents, please send your name to Mr. E by August 10th.  Currently, we have 1 nomination and the board will vote on candidates later this month in time for the first FOPHS Board meeting September 7th at 6:30pm.

We close the year with many successes but most important was the parent involvement and increase of new parents that stepped up to be a part of the parent organization. We look forward to next year and achieving our fundraising goals to increase membership and monies to support the teacher wish lists, sports, art, welding and much more.

Next year, we are looking for parents to shadow key positions.  They work with the current board member to learn and take over in 2016-2017.   If you are interested please let us know or come to our meeting on May 18th at 6:30 pm in the staff lounge.

We will start the year with some key events to highlight so mark your calendars because we want you there….

WE WANT YOU…..

to be a part of a great group of parents that provides input on how to make this a better school and experience for the students.

HOW…..

  1. Sign up to be a member now or next year – this will provide you monthly newsletters about what is going on around the school.
  2. Come to a board meeting and hear what the board is doing and hear from Mr. E what is going on at the school
  3. Donate because every dollar counts. Our success depends on donations, SCRIP and fundraising . We support many things that the school cannot always provide to teachers, art, music, welding, wood shop, mechatronics, athletics and more….
  4. Volunteer to help – we have many opportunities from lunch coverage in the library to grad night, hospitality, board member or fundraising..

Our upcoming meetings will be  at 6:30pm in the staff lounge on March 4th, April 8th and  our last meeting on May 6th.  Please come to one of the meetings to hear more about the school, our organization and upcoming activities.  We look forward to seeing you there!

September Newsletter and Message from Our President

I would like to welcome all the new and returning parents to Placer.  The Friends of Placer High School Organization has two objectives, first to provide information to the parents via email, web or newsletter and secondly, raise monies to support the school.  Over the years, FOPHS has been able to support such activities as the wish lists for teachers and staff not funded by the school, i.e., Senior Grad night, athletic programs and much more.   We raise monies thru our membership drive, SCRIP programs such as Raleys/Bel Air, Savemart and Safeway, A Casino Night event and general donations from the community.

We have kicked off our membership drive and asked you to consider becoming a member and making a donation.  Being a member is crucial to achieving our goal to raise over $5,000 so we can provide academic supplies for teachers and staff and support for many other programs, like sports, art and welding.  This year we sent out an email with a link to pay online through our website. We also mailed a newsletter to over 600 parents that do not have an email on file with the school.  If you did not receive an email or a form in the mail you can go to www.fophs.org and click on the DONATE button on the front page  or send an email to fophsnpo@puhsd.k12.ca.us for a form to be emailed to you.

We always encourage parents to get involved so please come to one of our meetings this year and find out what FOPHS is all about.   Attending the meeting allows you to hear, in more depth, what’s going on at PHS, ask questions and get an update from our principal, Mr. Efstathiu, who also attends regularly.  Our first meeting is September 3rd at 6:30pm in the staff lounge upstairs above the school office.

This year the following position(s) are open on the committee:

Grad Night Chair – Oversee details for senior grad night and work with volunteers to fundraise, design and decorate, staff the event etc..
