February Newsletter and Message from Our President

February Newsletter 20152016

Planning has begun for our annual fundraiser in an effort to raise money for ALL PROGRAMS at PHS.  This year we have chosen “Green & Gold Food and Wine Festival” as our theme, a food and wine tasting highlighting the wonderful vintners and eateries in our area.  This fun event, which will be held on Saturday April 9, 2016, at Gold Country Fairgrounds in the Sierra Building, provides an opportunity for the community to support their high school while enjoying food, drinks, entertainment, silent auction, and raffle prizes.  Mark your calendars and look for e-mails on how to buy your tickets in the next couple of weeks!  (If you’d like to help with this event please let us know!)

Wondering how you can become more involved in FOPHS? Many opportunities are available at various levels of commitment.  This year, we have some new faces and energy, which has been great to help FOPHS keep evolving as a great parent organization that supports Placer.  If you are interested in helping out, at any level, please join us at a meeting or email us. We would love to hear from you!

We are looking for some energetic parents to fill committee positions which are opening up. It would be great to have people in place before the next school year.  You can come to a meeting, email us at fophsnpo@puhsd.k12.us.ca  or call me at 916-952-1019.

We encourage all parents to get involved.  It’s a great way to stay informed about what is going on around the school.   You can come to our next board meeting(s) on Feb. 3th and/or March 2nd at 6:30 pm in the staff lounge to hear what we have planned, as well as hearing from Mr. E about what is happening within the school and district.

Thank you,

Kim Lightfoot, President

September Newsletter and Message from Our President

September Newsletter 20152016

We would like to welcome all new and returning parents to Placer High. We are off to a great and busy start! The Friends of Placer High School (FOPHS) is your parent organization and we have two objectives. Our First objective is to raise money to support the school. The primary way we do this is through membership, and our membership drive is in full swing! Your membership in FOPHS is a very powerful way for you to directly impact the learning/teaching environment at PHS. Membership dollars go towards granting wish list items, brought to us by the teachers, for needed materials not currently funded. Every year we are able to provide great enhancement to the classrooms through your generosity. We would like to ask you to please join FOPHS by making a donation of $25.00 (+/-). Considering students will be in school for 180 days and for a total of 1250+ hours, this breaks down to a mere 14 cents a day. That’s a great investment into your school.
This year you can pay online through our website. Go to www.fophs.org and click on the DONATE button on the front page, or send an email to fophsnpo@puhsd.k12.ca.us for a form to be emailed to you.
An additional way you can support FOPHS is by joining/using our Scrip programs, which include: Raleys/Bel Air, Savemart, Safeway, and Target. It’s easy! Please ask us for information about Scrip.
Our second objective is to provide information to the FOPHS members via email, web or newsletter. This wonderfully informative newsletter is the only newsletter generated to keep you abreast of what’s happening on campus.
Come to a meeting and see what we are all about. Attending the meeting allows you to hear, in more depth, what’s going on at PHS, ask questions, get updates and also hear from our principal, Mr. Efstathiu, who attends regularly. Our first meeting is September 2nd at 6:30pm in the staff lounge upstairs above the school office.
This year the following position(s) are open on the committee:
Grad Night Coordinator – Oversee details for senior grad night and work with volunteers to plan, fundraise, design, decorate and staff the event.
Thank you in advance for your support. We look forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,

Kim Lightfoot & Judy Pruett

We would like to thank all the parents who signed up to be a member this year and gave a donation.  Your membership helps to support the teacher wish lists.  The wish list this year is over $5,000 in requests that supports many classrooms from science, math, english to mechatronics, art, print making and much more.  Our goal was to raise at least $5,000 and we are still $2,700 shy of our goal.  Any donation matters, so we are kicking off the $5 membership drive in early January to support what $5 can do to support the school. Keep an eye out for your letter and if possible send your $5.00 donation in to FOPHS.

I would like to thank everyone who supported the Casino Night fundraiser for the Placer athletic program.  We had a great event with over 100 people that attended. We are finalizing all the numbers and hope to share our results later in the month.  I would like to recognize businesses and individuals you sponsored or donated to the event. Our community steps up every year to support Placer for all its fundraisers so as you shop for the holidays remember their support for Placer and shop local as a thank you.
