As we wrap up the year, we say goodbye to two parents that have meant a lot to the Friends of Placer High School parent organization.  Sylvia Fisk and Shellie Wright have been involved with the parent organization for the past three years and have been a big part of our organization.  We will miss them at the many school activities they were involved with and wish them well as they start a new chapter in their lives.

We close the year with many successes but most important was the parent involvement and increase of new parents that stepped up to be a part of the parent organization. We look forward to  next year and achieving our fundraising goals to increase membership and monies to support the teacher wish lists, sports, art, welding and much more.

We will start the year with some key events to highlight so mark your calendars because we want you there….

Happy New Year!!

I would like to start with thank you. With the monies we have raised so far,  we were able to fund the teacher wish list of $7,500 and raise over $8,000 for the sports program from the Casino Night fundraiser.

Have you told yourself you would like to help but not sure how?  Ask us how.   We have many areas where parent volunteers are always welcome:  becoming a member, registering for SCRIP, committee positions, and more.  This year, we have some new faces and energy which has been great to help FOPHS keep evolving to becoming a great parent organization that supports Placer.  If you are interested in helping out, plan to come to a meeting or email us. We would like to hear from you!

We have some committee positions opening up that would be great to be filled before the next school year:

  • Membership  Coordinator –  Coordinating, tracking and promoting parent membership to increase number of members and donations
  • SCRIP Coordinator  – Promoting and tracking SCRIP program for various providers (Raleys, Savemart, Target and E-Scrip) to increase sign-ups for programs that raise funds for our teacher wish list
  • Communication Coordinator – Manage email notices to parents, coordinate articles from teachers, counselors and committee members to create the Hillmen Parent Monthly Newsletter.  Work with webmaster to update information online and post newsletter.

We encourage you to get involved.  It is a great way to stay informed on what is going on around the school.   You can come to our next board on February 5th at 6:30pm in the staff lounge (March 5th after that) to hear what we have planned and also hear  Mr. E talk about what is happening within the school and district.

Thank you,

Kim Lightfoot

December 2013 FOPHS Newsletter is posted and a message from our President

We would like to thank all the parents who signed up to be a member this year and gave a donation.  Your membership helps to support the teacher wish lists.  The wish list this year is over $7,500 in requests that supports many classrooms from science, math, English, mechatronics, art, print making and much more.  Our goal was to raise at least $5,000 and we are still $1,500 shy of our goal.  Any donation matters, so we are kicking off the $5 membership drive in early January to support what $5 can do to support the school. Keep an eye out for your letter and if possible send your $5.00 donation in to FOPHS.

I would like to thank everyone who supported the Casino Night fundraiser for the Placer athletic program.  We had a great event with over 100 people that attended. We are finalizing all the numbers and hope to share our results later in the month.  I would like to recognize businesses and individuals you sponsored or donated to the event. Our community steps up every year to support Placer for all its fundraisers so as you shop for the holidays remember their support for Placer and shop local as a thank you.

Message from our President….

Casino Night on the “Hill” is less than 2 weeks away and counting.  This event supports the sports program and is critical to helping the budget shortfall.  Over the past 2 years, we have raised over $18,000 for sports. Our goal this year is to raise $15,000.

The event will be held on November 16th from 6:30 to 11:00 pm at the Power Club located at 195 Harrison Avenue and includes casino games, food and drinks, silent auction, raffle and much more.  You can buy your tickets by going to the Placer Website and clicking on the casino night link on the homepage to purchase online or call me at 916-952-1019.  So come out and have some fun!

Thank you to those that have signed up to be a member of FOPHS.  Your donations support the teachers’ wish list each year. Teachers are given the opportunity to make a wish list request from FOPHS to ask for items that would enrich a student’s education. We have been able to provide many requests over the years thanks to parents that donated to the membership drive.

The wish list includes many items for mechatronics, science, art, math, English and much more.  So if you have not signed up to be a member, please do so.  We take any donation!  Even $5.00 matters when granting the wishes.  Look for the wish lists items in the December newsletter that were provided to school.

Thanksgiving and we look forward to seeing or hearing from you at our next meeting December 3, 2013  at  6:30pm in the staff lounge. Thank you again for all of you that support FOPHS and the school

Sincerely,

Kim Lightfoot

Facebook Fundraiser sponsored by Target for PHS

This year, if you are a Facebook user, as a fundraiser, Target will give money to schools all over the country for one simple act: a vote. Our school needs just 25 votes to earn a $25 donation from Target. But that’s only the beginning. For each additional vote, our school will get $1 more. So please remember that, although the gesture is small, the rewards are potentially huge. Go to GiveWith.Target.com to vote for Placer High School once a week through September 21 or until Target has given away all $5 million. And please forward this email to your friends. Vote and see rules at GiveWith.Target.com.

Message from our President….

I would like to welcome all the new and returning parents to Placer.  The Friends of Placer High School has two objectives, first to support communication to the parents via email, web or newsletter and two, raise monies to support the school.  Over the years, FOPHS has been able to support such activities as wish lists for teachers and staff not funded by the school, Senior Grad night, staff appreciation, athletic programs and much more.   We raise monies thru membership drive, SCRIP programs such as Raleys/Bel Air, Savemart and Safeway, casino night event and general donations from the community.

Our membership drive began on the first day of school.  Our goal is to raise over $5,000, so if you did not receive your form in the mail in August let us know and we can send you another one.  You can also donate online by going to www.fophs,org  click on the donate button on the right hand side of the home page or click on the membership form located on the About Us page our website, complete it and send to the office with your donation.   Any donation would be appreciated, it all makes a difference.

We have some new board members this year that I would like to welcome, Jennifer Hensler and Lisa Voss.  Jennifer will be the treasurer and Lisa will be the secretary.  We always encourage parents to get involved so please take an opportunity to come to one of our meetings this year and find out what FOPHS is all about.   We do have the following positions open for the school year:

Vice President – Responsibility to support Presidential responsibilities. Coordinate any fundraising events FOPHS plans to host/sponsor.  Work with other board members to provide support when needed.

Shadow positions – Hospitality    We are looking to have a person shadow the current parent member this year to learn and take over in 2014-2015.

Stay connected to what is going on at the school and come to our first meeting, September 4th at 6:30pm in the staff lounge upstairs above the school office.  Thank you in advance for your support!
